Due to the incredible efforts by our communities Ponderay and Sandpoint, sponsors, volunteers, landowners, and Bay Trail patrons the City of Ponderay and Friends of Pend d’Oreille Bay Trail are excited to announce our mission of connecting our communities is a couple steps closer!
We invite you to join us at 2:00 pm on January 1, 2022 as we celebrate the gate opening and the New Year! Remember to dress warmly, prepare for icy conditions and a two mile walk on the trail! If you plan on driving to the trail, you will need to park at the Windbag Marina, City Beach, or the Creekside Trailhead.

Bay Trail Fun Run – October 3, 2021
About This Activity
Join us to help protect a treasured waterfront trail with your choice of a 5K or 10K trail run along the shores of stunning Lake Pend d’Oreille and Sand Creek.
The fun run/walk takes place along the shores of Lake Pend Oreille and SandCreek. This mostly flat route—which starts at Sandpoint’s City Beach—takes you out and back on the Pend d’Oreille Bay Trail. It features stunning views of the lake, creek and white capped mountains. 5K competitors return to where they started, in front of the Best Western Edgewater Resort on Sandpoint’s City Beach. Before returning to the finish line, 10K competitors continue for an additional out-and-back leg on the paved byway trails that curve along the east shore of Sand Creek.
Proceeds from the run benefit the Friends of the Pend d’Oreille Bay Trail and efforts to protect, expand and steward a stunning shoreline trail on Lake Pend Oreille.

Celebrate National Trails Day with the 7th Annual Bay Trail Fun Run!
Join us to help protect a treasured waterfront trail with your choice of a 5K or 10K trail run along the shores of stunning Lake Pend d’Oreille and Sand Creek.
The event includes profesional timing and a professionally measured course, free registration for kids 12 and under, awards for all age groups, a specially-priced runners lunch, complimentary massages, t-shirts, water bottles and other freebies as well as and a huge dose of great community spirit.
Back for the 2nd year – Family Team Category – Grab two or more other family members and register as a team to compete for family team awards in both the 5K and 10K races. First family member (the team captain) to register must create a team name before other members can join. Mininum of three members per team. Family must be related or live together as a family. There is no additional charge to form a team.
The race begins at Sandpoint’s City Beach and participants will follow a mostly unpaved and flat shoreline path on the Pend d’Oreille Bay Trail. 5K runners will return to the finish line where they started – in front of the Best Western Edgewater Resort on Sandpoint’s City Beach – while 10K runners will continue on the paved Sand Creek trail that curves along Sand Creek until they too return back to the finish line. Breathtaking views of the lake, creek and mountains await.
